Worlds in Peril: Superheroes

With the supervillains behind us, let's look at the heroes of my Worlds in Peril game. Three wildly different superheroes work together to protect Steelside from evil, even as they hide secrets from each other.

Red Tempest

Origin: What I Carry. Red Tempest owes her powers to a substance in her blood. It was put there by her mother, the super villainess called the Tempest. Her powers mirror her mother's.

Drive: Reconcile My Past

Maneuver +2, Investigate +0, Protect -1, Influence +1, Smash +1

Powers: Telekinesis

• Simple: Deflect bullets, maintain momentum of moving objects
• Difficult: Keep control of objects when out of sight
• Borderline: Pulling things apart
• Possible: Return a bullet with deadly force
• Impossible: Manipulate biological objects and beings

Secret ID: Miranda Avon, a blogger for the internet zine the Tattler. The game setting runs on TV logic so somehow the Tattler actually pays its bloggers and maintains an actual office.

Miranda's real name is Miranda Prospera. Her mother, Catherine Prospera, former CEO of Prospera Industries and billionaire capitalist, was secretly a super villain known as the Tempest. She (under her alias) was banished from the city 4 years ago.

Miranda, donning a red wig and the name Red Tempest, seeks to make up for her mother's evil deeds. Meanwhile she is hunted by a group interested in her powers, the shadowy government agency known as L.O.T.U.S.

The Gravedigger

Origin: Back From the Dead. The Gravedigger died over 20 years ago. In the afterlife he discovered that evil men did not get the punishment due to them. For that he returned to the world of the living to mete out justice.

Drive: See Justice Done

Powers: Undead, power over life and death

• Simple: Regrow a new body part (new part seems rotten and putrefied), rot someone's face off, see in the dark
• Difficult: Create a life ward or a circle that the living can't cross, use his abilities in places of high life energy, sense life
• Borderline: Rot or corrupt unliving matter, see how someone will die
• Possible: speak with the dead
• Impossible: raise the dead including as zombies

Secret ID: The Gravedigger's true name hasn't been revealed but one secret is known to the Editor and readers: he is Miranda Prospera's father and former lover of the Tempest. He sought Red Tempest out when she began her career as a super heroine to keep an eye on her.

The Gravedigger hides his disfigurements under a long coat and hat, wielding a shovel with deadly skill. He has a lair beneath Steelside cemetery complete with a private prison. Though he has been active as a superheroes for two decades, he has few connections to other heroes. They don't like him.

Obsessive about hunting evil doers, his current hang up is the spectral woman known as Banshee.

Chameleon

Origin: I'm a Freak. A genetic abnormality, Chameleon is unique in that she can control her appearance while other Freaks must suffer their disfigurements. In fact she can shapeshift into almost anything.

Drive: Die Trying. Chameleon lives fast and loves hard, leaving a string of ex-boy and girl friends behind her.

Powers: Shapeshifting

• Simple: Become other living things, replicate anything of the same size
• Difficult: Turn into large inanimate objects, fly
• Borderline: Split into two parts
• Possible: React almost immediately by shapeshifting (such as forming a hole to let a bullet pass through without harm)
• Impossible: Mimic someone she has touched recently or who share her genetic code

Secret ID: By day the Chameleon uses the name Rachel and workers as a part-time tattoo artist and bartender at a series of dives near the Scar. Chameleon si estranged from most of her family and left her home town years ago.

Among her ex-lovers, she has dated another Freak: Donny, a would be crime lord. She also found that she isn't unique, at least anymore. Another Freak, Iteration X replicated her powers during a battle by the pier.
