Material from The Price: Tokens and Trifles

Originally published July 4, 2014

In the course of my Changeling: the Lost game, The Price, I invented a number of tokens, trifles, and Goblin Fruits for them to use and trade. Here is a sample of the Oddments, Tokens and Trifles, their descriptions and effects.

Guilty Fruit Gum (Trifle)

HedgeGum
These pieces of gum pop up occasionally in Goblin Markets from time to time. No one is sure where they comes from. What is known is that chewing one fills you with a bitter regret and shame for some recent misdeed.

Those that chew or eat the gum gain the Guilt Condition.

Jar of Broken Promises (Oddment)

Mason_Jar_Glass
This seemingly empty mason jar jingles with the sound of broken glass when moved. Holding the promises broken to children by their parents and guardians, this sad item is all too common.

It can be traded as if it were a 2 dot item at a Goblin Market.

Miroslav's Shelftop (Token 2 Dots)

Forged with help from his sister Nicole and his friend Rocco McQueen, Miroslav Callaghan’s laptop has a beautiful wooden shell. A matching wooden shelf rests in a Hollow in Detroit where he keeps his occult library. As each book is placed on the shelf a file appears with all its data on the laptop.

For those who can see past the Mask, the grain of the wood on the laptop and shelf hide tiny symbols: ones and zeroes and other odder things.

Rocco's Hedge Cycle (Token or Hedge Mount 2 Dots)

Hedge_Cycle
This Harley Davidson WLA motorcycle has a side car and an engine that never seems to run down. Rocco just has to whistle or call to find it sitting beside the curb or just around a bend, just where he couldn't see it.

The Face of Time (Token 1 Dot)

Trench_watch_1916_gold
Nicole Callaghan made this token to keep track of time while in the Hedge. One face shows the time in the local Hedge while the second shows the passage of time in the mundane world. A third face can be flipped open. It shows a digital readout and fluctuates wildly. Nicole thinks it shows time in Arcadia.

The Mask of this timepiece is an old fashioned pocket watch. Only those who can see through the Mask can find the catch for the second and third faces.

Ticket to Nowhere (Oddment)

This items looks like an ordinary bus ticket, punched once. The destination reads ‘Nowhere’. Found on the bus half-sunk into a marsh in the Hedge and half-fallen into the depths of the Under-Hedge.

It is worth 1 Dot in a Goblin Market.
